The Big Five Collection

The Big Five is a small collection of five wild animals from Africa. The title, then, was because they were the most difficult to hunt. Trophy hunters considered them the most dangerous to hunt on foot. Nowadays, the title makes for the perfect checklist for animals to spot when on Safari. Four of the Big Five have a conservation status of vulnerable to critically endangered. The Big Five include The Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, and the Cape Buffalo.

I chose to put this collection together to highlight these animals on the blockchain. My goal is to play a small role in supporting the conservation efforts to keep these animals alive and flourishing in the ecosystems they support for generations to come. All the images in this collection were taken in Kenya.

The Big Five can be spotted while on Safari in thirteen African countries. Namely: Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Zimbabwe.

This collection also has a direct impact component to it. With this collection, I plan on giving 50% of the proceeds to wildlife conservation efforts in Kenya that also support and involve the communities around their conservancies.
I am grateful for this opportunity, through NFTs to be able to give to the conservation cause in Kenya which is near and dear to my heart.

Charity Organizations

I picked two charity organizations to share in the proceeds from the sale of these pieces. They are Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and Olpejeta Conservancy. These organization are in Kenya and are known for the roles they play in wildlife conservation. 50 percent of the sales will go to the two organizations. Of the 50 percent, Reteti Sanctuary will receive 25 percent and Ol Pejeta will receive 25 percent.

Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (25%)

Website: https://www.reteti.org/what-we-do

Reteti Elephant Sanctuary focuses on orphaned elephants, separated from their mothers because of various reasons including natural causes, human-wildlife conflict and poaching. The sanctuary is community owned and the first of its kind in Kenya.

For perspective, this is how much it costs in USD to care for the baby elephants in their care.

$10 - 1 bottle of milk

$35 - 2 bed-time elephant blankets

$125 - An elephant’s care for 1 day

$275 - An elephant’s milk for 3 days

$1225 - 2 weeks care for 1 elephant

Olpejeta Conservancy (25%)

Website: https://www.olpejetaconservancy.org/wildlife/rhinos/northern-white-rhinos/

Ol Pejeta was one of my top picks to support in their conservation efforts because of the urgent need for support with caring of the last two Northern White Rhinos in the world; Fatu and Najin. The conservancy is raising funds for the in-vitro fertilization techniques and stem cell technology, never been attempted, on Rhinos to keep the sub-species alive. The Northern White Rhinos are considered to be extinct in the wild. Only two remain, both on Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

For the procedure, their goal is to raise USD 200,000. So far, they have raised, USD 77,736. (As of 12/9/2021)

Lets help save the Northern White Rhino

Note: Both organizations do not have Crypto wallets. I will send their portion of the donation in USD to their respective donation pages.

Thank you for your consideration and support.
